We are some of those many people who have had chickens for most of our lives but never wanted more then what we could get through the hatcheries or the feed store. We have been very serious about the horses, dogs, parrots, dogs, cavy, dogs and goats that we have raised and have shown, most of them competitively at some point. The dogs are finally taking a back burner in favor of the poultry and waterfowl that we have been getting this year. We will be reducing our goat herd also and I am sure that some of those pastures will make great enclosures for the ducks and Shetland geese.
This year we bought 3 pair of bantam ducks and one lone Shetland gosling from Holderread Farm and I am looking forward to ordering more from them next year. We got a great start on Rose Comb Rhode Island Red Bantams from Lacy Greer here in Arizona and our Bantam Wyandottes came from Georgia and Oregon.
The true joy for my mom (Colleen) is that after three years of searching, she finally found the Speckled Sussex BANTAMS she has been searching high and low for. We had 7 eggs hatch that we got from a gentleman in Rhode Island and she has 3 pairs/trios on order from others. We are anxious to see what the 7 little chicks mature into.
